Share Your World – Week 1, 2017

The first SYW of the year.

Would you prefer to receive a unicycle, bicycle, tricycle or motorcycle? Bicycle. Unicycles have always fascinated me, I have no idea how those people manage to stay up! But seeing that it was only in my teens that I even got to learn to ride a regular bike, I don’t think I’m cut out for those. Gimme a nice non geared bicycle any day.. I love biking!

What is the one thing you would like to accomplish this year? Tough one. I have not made any hard and fast resolutions and my evil plans of world domination are supposed to be kept a secret, so.. I don’t know. Maybe become a more responsible, less insane person.

What was one of the highlights of 2016 for you? I wrote about it already in this post. But now that you mention it, I forgot to add one. One of my greatest fears of all time has been public speaking and I challenged myself to do that last year. I signed up for Model United Nations at a nearby college along with a friend. Turned out I could speak to a room full of people without looking like a complete moron (sure, my hands shook so wildly they almost called a paramedic, but that’s normal right? Right??) and I discovered that my brain and tongue are more coordinated that I’ve given them credit for. Those three days were definitely an amazing experience for me.

Would you prefer to fly a kite or fly in a hot air balloon? Hmm, toughie. Both seem like fun, but since I got to fly a kite once, I am going to go with the hot air balloon. I do have a fear of heights though, so it’s highly possible that I’ll pass out before it even leaves the ground.

What are you grateful from last week and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? I am definitely grateful for a temp job I landed at a local hospital. I was asked to fill in for the doctors who had gone on vacation. The money came handy. For the next week, I don’t have any plans at the moment. So maybe I’ll finally assemble those weapons of mass destruction. I wonder where I left the manual.

Share Your World – 2016 Week 52

My answers for Cee’s last SYW challenge of the year

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? This has less to do with my taste buds and more to do with my love for animation. Oswald was one of the shows I watched as a kid, and I distinctly remember an episode where Oswald gets a black current cone from the Vendor Snowman. At the time the only flavors I had been exposed to were the classics – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and so forth. I was so in awe of the purple colored exotic flavor that it stole my heart even before the first time I tasted it years later. All my friends think it tastes like cough medicine but to me it tastes like a childhood fantasy.

If you were to treat yourself to the “finer things” what would you treat yourself to? A ride on the Maharaja Express. I came to know of its existence after reading Around India In 80 Trains by Monisha Rajesh. A delightful travelogue, it talked about said train among others and intrigued me enough to investigate further. Winner of World’s Best Luxury Train for 4 consecutive years, the fares for all packages are priced at thousands of dollars. I realize I will never part with money on something so ostentatious, but then again I’ve got my fingers crossed. In case I win a lottery some day, I’m gonna see what the fuss is about.

Have you ever been drunk? Nope, and I don’t intend to. I like to be in control of my senses. I get into enough trouble talking in my sleep anyway.

My favorite supposedly guilty pleasure is.. Black Forest cakes. I do not have a sweet tooth, and I try to eat healthily as much as I can, but if there is one thing I cannot pass up on, its a helping of Black Forest. I have even gone as far as having half a kilogram of cake by myself in one sitting!

What are you grateful from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? My friends and I got together for an absolutely amazing day prior to Christmas. It was a struggle to make it work, what with work schedules and other holiday plans and I am so thankful we got to do it. We had a great time together in Idukki that culminated at sunset atop Mount Calvary. As for the next week, I look forward to the new year of course. A new diary, a new calendar, a new tale.

SYW – Week 50

This is in response to Cee’s Share Your World challenge. So here goes!

What is your favorite smell? What memory does it remind you of? My favorite smell is, was and always has been that of books. I’m an official book sniffer. The one thing I love to do when handed one, and this applies to textbooks as well, is open a random page and breathe it in. It doesn’t matter if it’s been freshly delivered or found in second hand bookstores (unless they are too dusty of course.) I think the smell takes me back to specific books from early reading days, especially those by Enid Blyton that I devoured as a child. I judge a book by its smell!

What kind of pet do you have or want to have ? We have an adorable dog, who is beginning to age. I wrote a post about him too. The idea of parting with him hurts so much, I don’t feel like having another pet. I have always wanted a squirrel though. My father apparently had one growing up, one that’d come sit on his shoulder when called and eat from his hand. I always thought it would be swell to have one like that.

Are you usually early, late or right on time? It depends really! If it is something that I’m excited about, like a movie or meeting up with friends I am always on time. But when it comes to less savory circumstances, I am nowhere near punctual. I procrastinate. Trying to break the habit though.

For recharging, would you rather meditate, swim, walk, listen to music, write, read, yoga, other? I sleep quite a lot. When I’m tired, bored, depressed. I always feel fresh after a nap. I do listen to music too, and writing sometimes helps me sublimate. (Hence the blog) Yoga and meditation are great too, but weirdly they make me feel sleepy rather than recharged!

What are you grateful from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up? This is an easy one. I am literally waltzing around the room in ecstasy as my dreaded exams of the year are finally over. I think I did them better than I hoped to. For the next week, I plan to finally get back to everything that had been on hold due to said exams – blogging, reading Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov that I bought a month ago and a week long sojourn with friends in Chennai.

Have a great week ahead, everyone!
